On June 23rd, Yusuke Takahashi's ISSEY MIYAKE MEN held its Spring/Summer 2017 collection show in the courtyard of the University of Paris.
Alongside psychedelic music by the Japanese band Geometrie Moyo, the designer presented pieces with relaxed silhouettes. This season, the designer was inspired by the minimalist, everyday style he witnessed during a trip to Varanasi, India.
The first collection featured wrinkled fabrics in black and white. Fabrics with nuanced textures, such as salt shrinking to create a sense of texture, twisted threads, and intricate jacquard weave, or handcrafted pleats created using the tornado-shibori technique, require no ironing and offer excellent stretch.
Colorful motifs inspired by the Holi festival were printed on a variety of fabrics, appearing on shirts and suits. Each piece is hand-printed by skilled artisans using five to ten different prints, making it a highly skilled craft. The final look was a suit made from fabric jointly developed with a factory and wool interlining. It has a minimal structure that creates a three-dimensional look and is wrinkle-resistant. The stand-up collar and fly-front jacket do not require a tie, proposing a new businessman style.
