On March 3rd, ISSEY MIYAKE, designed by Miyamae Yoshiyuki, held its Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection show at the Paris City Hall. The collection was titled "Chromatic Fantasia." This season's collection is divided into three parts: the "AURORAL" series, woven from a single thread of Shetland wool dyed five different colors; the "PLASMA x "Baked Stretch"" series, which uses baked stretch, a method of shrinking a special printed glue at high temperature; and the "AURORAS x "Steam Stretch"" series, which uses steam stretch, a method of shrinking fabric with pre-woven creases. "AURORAL" changes color depending on the angle from which it is viewed, and its graphic fabric, reminiscent of iridescent beetles, exhibits a unique luster and firmness. "PLASMA x "Baked Stretch"" creates a visual effect by overlapping wave patterns and borders. Despite its simple silhouette, the piece is one that invites you to look closely and explore its structure. "AURORAS x Steam Stretch" is a method of creating streamlined pleats from square pieces of fabric, making it possible to create three-dimensional clothing from flat fabric. With every movement, the garments exude a spring-like dynamism, and the beautiful color palette is a feast for the eyes.
The supple, sculptural beauty is something that can only be achieved with this fabric, and although it is something that happens every season, it left a strong impression of Issey Miyake's unique style.
