Giorgio Armani Prive presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 Haute Couture collection on July 4th in the ballroom of the Palais de Chaillot in Paris. The collection, titled "Mystery," was inspired by a variety of sources and utilized a wide range of ideas and techniques. Each look possesses a narrative that is difficult to describe in a single word, and, combined with the rarefied finest materials, they exude a mysterious allure. Many of the looks featured fitted silhouettes, with jackets adorned with jeweled accents and center-pleated pants that accentuated the vertical lines. Organic embroidered motifs graced gown coats, while floral brocade skirts were coordinated with sheer tops embroidered with horsehair.

A strapless dress with a floral motif was adorned with gradient bead embroidery, and a cardigan top densely embroidered with baguette beads was paired with a skirt layered with embroidered tulle to create shadows. When each motif was cut apart, it was neither simple botanical nor geometric, but almost like an abstract art piece.

The second half of the show featured experimental pieces typical of the maison, such as a balloon cape made of puffed jacquard material and an A-line cape layered with lace. Always maintaining a challenging attitude, Armani's creations surprise with modern pieces, and it was hard not to be amazed.
