Hublot boutique grand opening at Kyoto's Gion Machiya Project

Jul 18, 2017

Swiss luxury watch brand Hublot will open the "Hublot Boutique Kyoto" (570-8 Gion-cho Minamigawa, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) in the Gion Machiya house of the Daimaru Kyoto store on August 26th.

This will be the brand's 88th store worldwide and its third directly operated store in Japan. The store will be part of the "Machiya Project" in Gion, Kyoto, which is part of the Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store's 300th anniversary celebrations, and will showcase a new fusion of Kyoto and the brand.

Stepping through the noren curtain hanging in the atmospheric atmosphere, one enters a world where materials familiar to Japanese culture, such as custom-made washi paper with a monogram pattern that matches the Kyoto cityscape, wickerwork, and bamboo, are used in the store's showcases and walls. The front wall on the first floor is adorned with artwork depicting the brand's watches in colorful pop art, which, combined with the wood-grain interior, creates a space that embodies the store's "Art of Fusion" concept.

The second floor is a VIP lounge furnished with custom-made Nishijin-ori sofas, and behind it is the brand's first tea room. Custom-made black tatami mats decorated with a monogram pattern blend the brand's essence with a Kyoto vibe. Furthermore, this floor will be a space where new information will be shared, with seasonal themes set aside. An exhibition titled "The Art of Fusion - A Collection of Different Materials and Ideas" is planned for October.

The store offers a wide lineup, centered around the signature collections "Big Bang" and "Classic Fusion." The new "Spirit of Big Bang All Black" series incorporates bold colors such as red, orange, and green, and will also feature boutique-exclusive models, as well as the "Hublot World Limited Collection," which brings together limited edition models from around the world, available exclusively at the store.

In addition, purchasers of watches will receive a special folding fan made by Miyawaki Baisenan as a gift.
