3.1 Phillip Lim presented its Spring 2018 Men's Collection in New York. Focusing on the lives of enigmatic painters, the collection features an abundance of hand-painted, chalk-stripe motifs, evoking the artist's artwork, reimagining traditional artist workwear into elegant yet practical pieces. Inspired by iconic American artists such as Ellsworth Kelly, Jackson Pollock, and Cy Twombly, the wardrobe begins with a pure white work jacket evoking a blank canvas, and meticulously recreates every artist's work tool, from aprons to smocks. Bold paintwork reminiscent of Jackson Pollock's drip paintings is applied to raw denim, jumpsuits, and flight jackets, capturing a moment in an artist's working process. Jacquard sweaters feature long sleeves, creating a high-contrast look reminiscent of abstract graphic art. Wide-pitch chalk stripes are featured on suits, broadcloth shirts, jersey pants, and terry shorts, creating a casual look that links to the life of an artist, whose style is both classic and somehow avant-garde. The vibrantly feathered owl motif exudes a relaxed feel, reminiscent of the nightwear once favored by famous painters, while the delicate colors add a special elegance. The accessory line includes a large canvas bag reminiscent of a painter's toolbox, a tote bag printed with a handwritten message, and comfortable sandals in a paint splatter pattern.
