On July 28th, Nike opened its first new store in Japan, "NIKE KICKS LOUNGE OMOTESANDO" (Mico Jingumae, 4-25-12 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), in Omotesando, Tokyo. The two-floor store, with a total floor area of approximately 177 square meters, offers sportswear, running, basketball, SB, Jordan brand, and limited edition merchandise. It also offers its first-ever tailoring service and custom printing. Nike has previously operated "Nike Kicks Lounges" in China, Taiwan, and other regions, based on the concept of local style. "Nike Kicks Lounge Omotesando" is the next generation of these stores. Centered on Tokyo street style and consumers, the store offers a curated selection of the latest footwear and apparel from each category, creating a comprehensive experience.
The interior of the store is impressive, with a gymnasium-like atmosphere, a basketball court-inspired floor, and wall art by artist Ryu Okubo. QR code boards are placed throughout the store, allowing customers to freely take photos and post them on social media such as Instagram.
The first floor focuses on the latest collections. To the right of the entrance is a curated space featuring a mix of other brands. The latest footwear is displayed in the center of the first floor, and the latest apparel is displayed in the window to the right. Footwear and T-shirts are also sold in front of the wall art at the back of the store. Footwear is also displayed on the wall in front of the staircase.
Meanwhile, the second floor sells limited edition T-shirts and Jordan brand items, and to the right of the stairs is a permanent space offering tailoring services and customizing all printable tops, including T-shirts, hoodies, and sports bras. In addition to being able to hem pants and other apparel items with hemming and cut-offs, customers can choose the size and combination from over 30 designs, including Nike original designs and logo designs by artists participating in in-store creations, and print them in about 20 minutes.
In-store also offers a seamless service where customers can purchase items from the online store (https://www.nike.com/) and have them delivered to a specified address or pick them up at one of 12,000 convenience stores nationwide.
Eric Siegel, GM of Nike Direct Japan, commented, "Nike's unique combination of sport, innovation and culture is perfect for Tokyo consumers who have a keen sense of style and are looking for more individuality."
