Nike has announced the NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.0 (¥22,000), a collaboration between Nike and artist Tom Sachs. Inspired by Sachs's interactions with NASA's highly specialized scientists, the NikeCraft Mars Yard Shoes were created for the "SPACE PROGRAM 2.0: Mars" exhibition at New York's Park Avenue Armory in May 2012. This follow-up, the 2.0, was created by Sachs, who has been wearing the original shoes for five years, and worked with the brand's designers to improve durability and other aspects. Instead of Vectran, the upper uses a more breathable tricot mesh material that reduces heat buildup. Additionally, the red strap, which makes the shoes easier to put on, has been sewn with an X-shaped stitching within a square, providing stronger stitching. The outsole has an inverted texture for urban wear, and comes with two insoles: mesh and cork, which are ideal for barefoot wear.
