SAZABY LEAGUE x SHINCHOSHA Open New Facility "la kagu" in Kagurazaka

Jul 3, 2014

SAZABY LEAGUE has been commissioned to develop and operate the "Kita Warehouse" facility owned by Shinchosha in front of Kagurazaka Station on the Tozai Line. The new commercial facility, "la kagu" (67 Yaraicho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo), will open this fall. The concept is "REVALUE," which translates as refining old things with a modern perspective and reviving their inherent charm. In Kagurazaka, a neighborhood where both old and new blend together, the facility combines traditional Japanese elements, such as long-established restaurants and temples and shrines, with French restaurants lined up around the Institut Franco-Japanese. The facility offers a sophisticated lifestyle that transcends trends and focuses on discovering "things that have been around for a long time" and "things to cherish for the future." The facility will feature shops selling apparel, accessories, and furniture, a cafe, a book space, and a lecture hall, and aims to be a place where conversation and community can flourish. Architect Kengo Kuma oversaw the architectural design. The facility's name, "Lakagu," is a difficult-to-pronounce name sometimes used by French people living in Kagurazaka, and the logo design was created by the project's art director, Hirabayashi Naomi.

The goal is to create synergies between the publishing of Shinchosha, a company that has led Japan's publishing culture, and the lifestyle proposals of SAZABY LEAGUE, which currently operates over 30 brands, through the use of both companies' content and platforms to develop new content and foster talent.
