Virgin Atlantic unveiled its new uniforms, designed by Vivienne Westwood. The uniforms are eco-conscious and made with polyester yarn made from recycled PET bottles and nano-processing, which ensures the garment lasts longer and maintains its color. The red jacket is inspired by the brand's "Bettina" collection from the 1990s, and the pencil skirt features a matching color with darts at the back. The hand-painted feather design is a signature motif for Virgin Atlantic, and is also featured on the bags for ground staff, a collaboration between the Ethical Fashion Initiative and the International Trade Centre in Nairobi. The uniforms also incorporate cutting techniques from French couture designs of the 1940s. The female crew members will wear double-breasted draped coats and updated classic red shoes called "hourglass heels," while the male crew members will wear three-piece suits made from wine-red wool. A total of 22 new uniforms will be distributed to more than 7,500 employees, including cabin crew, pilots, and airport lounge staff. The new uniforms will be introduced on Virgin Atlantic aircraft and at airports from September 1st.
The unveiling party, held at the Village Underground club in London on July 1st, was attended by Virgin Group Chairman Richard Branson and Vivienne Westwood.
