The new uniform design for Virgin Atlantic Airways, designed by Vivienne Westwood, has been announced. The new uniforms are eco-conscious and incorporate a variety of recycled materials.
The design drawings show the female crew's suit set featuring a contoured hourglass silhouette with pleats at the waist and bustline, creating a three-dimensional silhouette. The color is Virgin Red, Virgin Atlantic's corporate color. The male crew's uniform is a sharp three-piece suit based on the traditional British Savile Row style. Photos of the actual uniforms will be released in June.
< ... The materials for the uniforms she designed this time include polyester yarn made from used PET bottles and recycled fabric made from worn polyester clothing, using technology developed in collaboration with the British environmental organization Closed Loop Recycling. The suits also feature a nano-processing process to prevent fabric deterioration and improve color retention, ensuring long-lasting wear. Vivienne Westwood will also be creating bags for ground staff in collaboration with the International Trade Center's Ethical Africa Programme, a long-standing project she has been involved in. The bags are made from recycled canvas, roadside advertising banners, leather scraps, and brass made from discarded padlocks and car parts collected from the slums of Kibera, Nairobi, which have been melted down and recycled into metal.
Vivienne is known for founding Save the Arctic, an international campaign to protect Arctic nature, in June 2012, as well as for her support of the global environmental organization Greenpeace. She is also the largest fundraiser for the forest protection organization Cool Earth.
