A cilantro festival is being held in Harajuku! Curry, shaved ice, mojitos, and even embroidery?! It's all about cilantro!

Jul 8, 2014

A food event all about cilantro, "Cilantro Festival: Love Me Coriander," will be held from July 11th to 15th at ROCKET (6-9-6 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) in Harajuku, Tokyo. Cilantro, also known as coriander or cilantro (shancai), is a spice with a unique flavor. While some people love it and others hate it, there are certainly ardent cilantro lovers. On the 11th, an opening event, "Cilantro Night," will be held, featuring Kyo Saya, owner of "Cilantro House," a cilantro specialty restaurant in Kyodo, Tokyo, and Hisashi Tanaka, a cilantro guide. Popular dishes from Pakchi House and drinks like cilantro mojitos will be available for purchase, and a talk show titled "Cilantro: From a Condiment to a Main Role" will begin at 6:00 PM. A "Cilantro ATM" will also be set up, offering free cilantro seeds. Special menus using cilantro will also be available, including cilantro curry from the curry stall "Rico Curry," which is usually only available for takeout, on the 12th, "SAME SAME cilantro shaved ice" by Tanaka on the 13th, and Rocket's special cilantro bento on the 15th. On the 12th and 13th, embroidery artist Nekomotion will also be holding a cilantro embroidery workshop. You can attach cilantro motifs to bags, T-shirts, and pouches on the spot.
