Valentino opens flagship store on New York's 5th Avenue, at the former Takashimaya site

Jul 8, 2014

Valentino will open its flagship store at 693 Fifth Avenue in New York in August.

Like its other US stores, the store design will inherit the store concept by creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli and architect David Chipperfield, incorporating an architectural form reminiscent of a palazzo while adding a new dimension.

The store will be located on the former site of the Takashimaya department store and will cover an area of approximately 1,858 square meters. John Burgee and Philip Johnson were responsible for the construction. The transparent facade, which stretches up to the eighth floor, is crafted from black steel and aluminum. A vertical brass bar connects the lower three floors, integrating the facade with lanterns, clocks, and the brand logo.

The store features a massive 8.2-meter-high atrium, with a Palladiana staircase connecting all levels. It features 39 single shelves displaying products like an installation. The perimeter of the room is fitted with indirect lighting and clear white product display lighting, while the center is fitted with warm lighting and a chandelier.

All categories, including women's and men's collections, are available, with a particular emphasis on accessories. Valentino Garavani's collection, including the Zodiac Finger Clutch, available exclusively at the flagship store, will be available, along with the Rockrunner sneakers featuring a red heart on the back, available exclusively at this store.
