Relaxed Tailoring in Pastel Colors [London Collection: Men's Day 1 -- 2/2]

Jul 8, 2014

YMC used pastel colors and cotton and linen materials to create a relaxed, resort-style look with tailored clothing. A pale coral pink tailored jacket features a drawstring waist for a more casual feel. Traditional check patterns, detailed in gray and pale orange, are featured on loose-fitting linen suits. The collection began with pale coral and beige, gradually evolving into stronger colors like red and vibrant blue.

Lou Dalton also showcased a color palette that gradually shifted from soft, soft tones to more vibrant colors. The show kicked off with all-white outfits mixing different textures, moving from pink and pale gray to brick yellow, red, navy, and more. Collarless jackets were paired with white baseball shirts, and the shoulders were slightly looser, creating a relaxed atmosphere while still remaining based on tailored pieces.

Savile Row's HARDY AMIES also offered a tieless, resort-inspired tailored look. Inspired by 1970s interior prints from the Hardy Amies archives and yacht sailing motifs, the collection featured soft colors like pale blue, pistachio, and coral accented with vibrant yellow. Hardy Amis SS15 Collection
Jonathan Saunders showcased a pale color palette of beige and coral accented with silver and mustard. While incorporating relaxed pieces like slightly oversized, loose-gauge knitwear, tailored jackets were slim and shaped at the waist, and the ties were neatly fastened. Richard Nicoll, a contemporary of Jonathan Saunders, brings a new perspective to basic items like his signature shirts. He varied the length, size, and texture of the fabric. T-shirts elevate with crisp, paper-like textures and silver trim and pockets, while tie-dye long shirts become statement pieces on their own. He adds variety to the overall outfit by pairing casual items with low-tech sneakers and tailored items with sandals. Richard Nicol SS15 Men's Collection
Christopher Raeburn was one designer who stuck to his signature style. He presented a masculine collection with military, particularly air force, motifs. The aircraft motif was printed on playing cards, scattered across leather jackets, and enlarged on the front of T-shirts. The color palette was typical of the air force: khaki, orange, black, and gray. Christopher Raeburn SS15 Collection
Christopher Shannon, the inaugural recipient of the BFC/GQ Menswear Fund, established in 2013 to support mid-sized British menswear brands, started his collection in a teenager's bedroom. Using jersey and knit as the primary materials, he creates styles consisting of long pullovers and loose shorts, adding variety with text prints, collages, zip pockets, colorful appliqués, and striped patterns. MAN, a collaborative show for newcomers sponsored by Topman, featured three brands: Bobby Abley, participating for the third season, and Nicomede Talavera and Liam Hodges, both participating for the first time. Nicomede Talavera experimented with gender-mixing with gingham checks, pleats, and skirt-like items; Liam Hodges wore an oversized, exaggerated Boy Scout look; and Bobby Avery, who looked more masculine than ever with distressed denim, hoodies, and monochrome tones, added a touch of quirky, cartoon-style face prints. Each artist showed off their own unique style.
