Zadig et Voltaire has released items in collaboration with contemporary artist Tsukasa Otake at Center Park/The Stage #2 on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building.
When Zadig et Voltaire founder Thierry Gillier visited Japan, he was impressed by Otake's work and approached him to create an image visual, which led to this event. The brand's 14SS theme is "I SHOULD HAVE BEEN A COWBOY." Otake created a light-hearted, cartoon-like visual depicting cowboys and animals.
Items printed with Otake's visuals will be available for pre-sale at the store. Items include T-shirts (14,000 to 18,000 yen), notebooks (1,200 yen), scarves (21,000 yen), and key ring charms (3,800 yen). Also available: "Dance," an acrylic painting (600,000 yen) created by the artist exclusively for the event, depicts a cowboy on horseback against a light-hearted, comical backdrop. Zadig & Voltaire's new 2014 Autumn/Winter collection will also be on display. Leather bags (34,000 to 85,000 yen), cashmere knit pullovers and dresses (48,000 to 90,000 yen), and wool cardigans and pullovers (16,000 to 28,000 yen) will be on sale. The first 200 customers to spend 15,000 yen or more will receive an original tote bag. Otake was born in Nagoya in 1978. After studying traditional Japanese painting, he currently creates two-dimensional works using acrylic paint. He paints uniquely Japanese motifs, such as beckoning cats and monsters, in colorful acrylic paint with a light touch. A product manager commented, "We thought the combination of Zadig & Voltaire's different elements, such as 'modern and rock' and 'kindness and strength', and Otake's uniquely Japanese manga-like perspective was original and interesting, so we planned the event. We would like to continue to create events that combine a uniquely Japanese perspective with other elements."
