Petit Bateau will release a collection in early May in collaboration with Japanese designer Kenta Matsushige. Matsushige, a Paris-based Japanese designer who has worked for numerous brands, including Dior, is known as a passionate minimalist, consistently presenting clean, structured pieces. He won the Grand Prix in the fashion category at the 2014 Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography. The Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography partnered with Petit Bateau in 2013. The Grand Prix winner is granted carte blanche, or the freedom to reinvent items from the brand. Matsushige, who unanimously won the Grand Prix in 2014, drew inspiration from the kimono, transforming the shape of classic T-shirts and reconstructing sailor stripes through layered prints, breathing new life into traditional colors and materials. The lineup includes dresses (24,000 yen), sailor shirts (16,000 yen), T-shirts (8,500 yen), and more.
