Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "must-read books" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookshop "NADiff" will introduce a recommended book. This time, we'll be visiting NADiff Contemporary, a branch in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, Tokyo (located inside the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, 4-1-1 Miyoshi, Koto-ku, Tokyo).
■ "Gabriel Orozco: Multiple Cycles Within"
Born in Mexico in 1962, Gabriel Orozco attracted attention in the early 1990s with his work "La DS," in which he divided a beloved French car, a Citroën, into three parts and reconstructed the interior. Since then, he has continued to work internationally, becoming a leading contemporary artist who has had a major influence on the next generation of artists.
Movement, movement, trajectory, circulation... Orozco's work always evokes "motion," even in his still photographs and sculptures. His works, such as "Yogurt Lid," "Empty Shoebox," and "Cat and Watermelon," subtly intervene in familiar objects and events to express phenomena, and later continue to transform across time and place, sometimes even bringing to light the structure of things.
This book, the official catalog for his first solo exhibition in Japan, currently running until May 10th at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, contains not only the exhibited works but also color illustrations of his past representative works, as well as a 50-page long interview with the artist himself discussing his own work. This valuable book, limited to 2,000 copies, provides a comprehensive view of Orozco's work.
