Mar 10, 2015

The art gallery on the 5th floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku will be holding an art exhibition titled "Art Message from New York - From Warhol to Yayoi Kusama" from March 18th to 24th (closing at 4:30pm on the final day), displaying and selling works by artists active mainly in New York.

The venue will mainly feature prints, ranging from pop art by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein to works by leading Japanese contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Takashi Murakami. Works on display and for sale include Andy Warhol's "COW 2 (2 is Roman numeral) 12A" (5,092,953 yen / 115.6cm x 75.6cm, silkscreen, 1976), Jim Dine's "VEGETABLE" (2,000,000 yen / 77.0cm x 102.0cm, lithograph and collage), Keith Haring's "Untitled" (800,000 yen / 21.5cm x 31.0cm, lithograph, 1987), and Yayoi Kusama's "Dress" (2,200,000 yen / 53cm x 45.6cm, lithograph and silkscreen, 1982).

The cafe "RAIKA", which opened adjacent to the venue in December 2014, will be serving a special dessert during the exhibition called "VIVID FRUIT with coffee or tea" (2,600 yen), which expresses Warhol's vivid colors through fruit. Large slices of fruit are placed in a bright red Amaou strawberry sauce and topped with Tochiotome strawberry gelato.

In addition, on the 21st, the gallery will host a gallery talk show (from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM) by Kawanishi Hiroshi, president of the print studio "Simca Print Artists New York", titled "Memories of the 1970s New York".
