Gaultier returns to Japan with Seven & i, releasing low-priced collaboration items starting this fall/winter season

Mar 4, 2015

Jean Paul Gaultier, who will be withdrawing from the ready-to-wear market after the Spring/Summer 2015 season, is making a comeback in Japan. He will design collaborative items as a guest designer for "SEPT PREMIERES," a private brand launched by Seven & i Holdings in the Fall/Winter 2015 season.

The collaborative collection, "Jean Paul Gaultier for Sept. Premieres," will be available only for women. The items will be 10% outerwear, 50% tops, 15% bottoms, 5% dresses, and 20% accessories. Approximately 50 styles are planned, priced from ¥3,900 to ¥29,000. The iconic striped sweater will be ¥4,900, and the trench coat will be ¥19,000.

The collection will be sold at 45 Ito-Yokado stores and 24 Sogo & Seibu stores. Online sales are also planned. The store design will be handled by nendo, led by Oki Sato. The collaboration will be limited to two seasons until Spring/Summer 2016.

Discovered by Onward Kashiyama and having held a solo exhibition at the Ueno Royal Museum, Gaultier is known as a Japanophile. His only previous collaboration with low-priced apparel was a capsule collection with American retailer Target. This latest project features a rich lineup, which is sure to be good news for Japanese fans.
