A major retrospective of French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier, "The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk," opens at the Barbican Art Gallery in London on April 9th. Over 180 pieces spanning Gaultier's 35-year career will be on display, including ready-to-wear, haute couture, and stage costumes. Videos from fashion shows, concerts, and films featuring Gaultier's costume designs will also be screened. Photographs of his collaborations with Andy Warhol, Herb Ritts, Peter Lindbergh, and others will also be on display. In a promotional video for the exhibition, Gaultier said, "The British were the first to recognize my collections. I'm very happy to be able to have my exhibition in my beloved London, a city that, in some ways, feels closer to me than Paris."
