Maison Margiela's Fall/Winter 2015-16 collection was unveiled. This was the first ready-to-wear collection since John Galliano took over the brand. Set in the 1970s, the collection infused Galliano's signature style into the Margiela platform.

The theme was "the ephemeral beauty that resides in calculated imperfection," exemplified by the inside-out technique. The top, made of a PVC bodysuit with an embroidered liner and then layered with organza, was left unfinished, with the embroidery threads still visible and the faint threads visible. The raw edges were left undone, giving the impression of a torn hem. The shape was inspired by Margiela's iconic stockman silhouette.

The linings of the coats and jackets were constructed from dresses. The outerwear included straps for carrying. When layered, the hemline appeared like a skirt, while when worn alone, the outerwear created a train-like effect. The patent coat's pockets with flap cuffs and the eye-like jacquard weave are details that link to the Artisanal collection shown in London in January. The skirt, based on pants in progress, and the hidden buttons and hooks are quintessentially Margiela. The large cuffs, excessive buttons, and elegant draping all evoke Galliano. The return of the bias-knit jacket, a Galliano signature, will delight fans. It sways gracefully and ephemerally. Leather accessories are also plentiful. New additions include double-strap sandals and pumps with bandage-like ribbons around the heels. Margiela's iconic accessories have evolved. Tabi shoes now feature relaxed toe slits, creating a more delicate indentation. Shopping bags can be used as clutches or shoulder bags with straps, with adjustable strap lengths. An inside-out style with paper on the outside and leather on the inside is also available.

Looking at it, you want to try to figure out how much is Margiela and how much is Galliano, but that might be foolish, because this is the Margiela of today and the Galliano of today.
