H&M opens Japan's first men's specialty store

Sep 6, 2015

On September 5th, H&M will open its first men's specialty store in Japan, "H&M EBISUBASHI MEN'S," (2-4-9 Shinsaibashisuji, Chuo-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture), in Ebisubashi, Osaka.
The store will be located on the former site of its subsidiary brands Weekday and Monki. The "H&M Ebisubashi Store" located across the street was renovated on the 3rd into a women's specialty store. The store will have four floors, from the basement to the fourth floor. The basement floor will feature outdoor casual and sportswear, the first floor will feature the "Trend" line, debuting in the Kansai region, and classic series, the second floor will feature denim and high-street casual, and the third floor will feature suit-style dresswear and smart casual.
The men's store will also have a style advisor on-site by appointment to provide coordination advice. While the company has approximately 20 men's specialty stores worldwide and three in Asia, the Ebisubashi store will be the first in Asia to feature a full-time style advisor. There will be three advisors, who will rotate shifts and be stationed at the store.

The company opened a men's specialty store in Japan because "we realized that Japanese men are very interested in fashion," explained a company spokesperson. "Even on the release date of designer collaboration products, men are always at the front of the line, and men's sales are increasing even at suburban stores." Regarding future store opening plans, the company stated, "We are of course considering opening specialty stores for men and children, but our main focus will remain large, family-oriented stores."

The men's store targets a wide range of customers, from teenagers to seniors, with price ranges ranging from around ¥1,000 for T-shirts, ¥5,000 to ¥6,000 for outerwear, ¥10,000 for coats, and ¥2,500 for pants.
