Rie Miyazawa appears at the gala party for the opening of the high jewelry exhibition "Art of Bulgari"

Sep 8, 2015

Bvlgari is holding an exhibition at the Tokyo National Museum (September 8th to November 19th) showcasing a selection of rare high-end jewelry, "The Art of Bvlgari: 130 Years of Italian Beauty." Actress Rie Miyazawa attended the gala party held at the museum on September 7th, the eve of the opening. Bvlgari has created numerous pieces of jewelry inspired by the art and architecture of ancient Greece and Rome. The exhibition will feature approximately 250 rare archive pieces from Bvlgari's magnificent collection spanning over 130 years. The exhibition will include silver ornaments and Art Deco pieces made by the founding family, as well as the costumes worn by Elizabeth Taylor in the film "Cleopatra" ('63), jewelry given to her by her husband, actor Richard Burton, and jewelry worn by legendary actresses such as Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, and Sophia Loren.

In addition, a lineup worthy of the brand's illustrious history will be unveiled, including special exhibits of "Mount Fuji" and "Buddha," inspired by Japanese aesthetics, the "Serpenti Collection," which means "snake" in Italian, and the "40th Anniversary Bvlgari Bvlgari Collection," inspired by ancient Roman coins. Appearing in a striking, vibrant green Ralph Lauren dress, Miyazawa commented, "Today, the jewelry is the focal point, so I kept the dress as simple as possible. I chose a green color that would go well with the gemstones." The sparkling necklace on her chest was priced at 30.9 million yen. Her earrings (4.86 million yen), jewelry watch (29.2 million yen), and bag (550,000 yen) were all masterpieces that combined Bulgari's tradition and innovation, and Miyazawa herself was enchanted, saying, "When I wear these jewels, which are like art, I feel like I have wings on my back and can fly forever."

■Comment from Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of the Bulgari Group
"It has long been our wish to hold a major retrospective exhibition in Japan as a tribute to one of the world's most important markets. We are delighted that this wish has finally been realized with the cooperation of one of the country's leading museums. Visitors will be able to see the breadth and power of Bulgari's innovation, which has continued for more than 130 years, supported by a unique tradition rooted in Rome."
