The art project "TRANS ARTS TOKYO 2015" will be held in Kanda, Tokyo, a neighborhood beloved by cultural figures. The event will run from October 9th to November 3rd.
Starting in 2012, this art project, now in its fourth year, explores the future of the region and culture in the "transitional" urban space of Kanda, Tokyo. Its appeal lies in the ability to enjoy cross-genre art in existing buildings and spaces.
This year, the project will be based on the former site of Tokyo Denki University, while expanding further into the city and promoting various community-based projects.
The "Goto-Ippachi Creative Project," originating from the corner of Kandacho, is an ongoing art project that brings together creators from various genres and the surrounding area along "Goto-dori" and "Ippachi-dori," streets that run east-west parallel to Yasukuni-dori along the border between Kanda Nishikicho and Kanda Ogawamachi. Creators will hold exhibitions and events in existing buildings, parking lots, and stores.
In addition, at the "Art Festival," which will be held in the parking lot that formerly housed Nanmeiza, said to be Kanda's oldest movie theater, there will be outdoor screenings, art stalls, an exhibition of floats made by Tokyo University of the Arts, live performances, and more, allowing you to enjoy the festival together with the creators.
Photographer Ikeda Akiko's "Ikeda Akiko Portrait Project 2015" will focus on 50 different types of people, photographing the people living in this town. The models will then be exhibited in the "places where they live." Other events include "cocoten2015 by coconogacco," a fashion exhibition showcasing disruptive ideas by current and former students of "coconogacco," a school founded by writtenafterwards designer Yoshikazu Yamagata and currently co-directed by fashion designer Mikio Sakabe; "Oedo Beer Festival 2015," one of Japan's largest craft beer events; "Kanda Sports Festival 2015," where you can try out sports like pro wrestling and inline skating; and "Urban Camp Tokyo Hotel 2015," where you can camp on the site of the former Tokyo Denki University. Experience the new creativity and charm of Tokyo at TRANS ARTS TOKYO 2015, where you can enjoy cross-genre art that utilizes the diversity of the city.
