Aoyama Fruit Parlor hosts seasonal grape tasting event, featuring grapes for winemaking

Sep 19, 2015

"AOYAMA FRUITS PARLOR 'Grape Tasting'," where you can compare seasonal grapes, will be held at the Aoyama Farmers Market on September 20th.

The previous "AOYAMA FRUIT PARLOR" seasonal fruit tasting event was well-received when it was themed around peaches. This time, the theme is grapes, a quintessential autumn fruit, and large, bursting-in-the-mouth grapes and Muscat grapes will be gathered from Yamanashi, Yamagata, Fukushima, and Nagano.

One of the highlights will be the rarely seen wine grapes from Katsunuma Indie Wines in Yamanashi Prefecture. Two varieties will be featured: Koshu, a European variety brought to Japan along with Buddhism about 1,300 years ago, and Merlot, a high-quality variety used for red wine. Other grapes on offer include "Pione," "Shine Muscat," "Kaiji," "Pittero Bianco," and "Kyoho" from Amano Vineyard in Koshu, Yamanashi Prefecture; "Black Beat" from Sakura Farmers in Fukushima Prefecture; and "Nagano Purple," "Sunny Dolce," and "Kogyoku" from Ito Grape Farm in Nagano Prefecture.
