Three seminars focusing on "hospital art," which heals the soul through the power of art, will be held at the IMA CONCEPT STORE in Roppongi, Tokyo, on October 8th, 21st, and November 5th. Photographer Wakagi Shingo will also be appearing at the third seminar.
"Hospital art," which heals the soul through the power of art, is becoming increasingly popular in medical settings these days. The event, themed "Does art photography soothe people's minds?", will feature talk sessions with experts to explore new possibilities for art photography.
The first seminar, "Three Reasons Art Appreciation Has a Mental Benefit," will feature Takaaki Okumura, Dean of the School of Child Studies at Seitoku University and author of "Executives Visit Art Museums," and Tamio Sueyasu, President of the Japanese Psychiatric Nurses Association, who will discuss the psychological impact of viewing photographs.
In the second session, "Art Opens Hearts: Practices in the Medical Field," Taketake Sugiyama, a doctor who has previously exhibited art photos in hospitals, and Yutaka Moriguchi, who uses art to create healing spaces in medical settings, will talk about real-life examples of "art in the hospital."
And in the third session, "A Life with Art Enriches the Soul," photographer Shingo Wakagi, who works in magazines such as The New York Times Magazine and SWITCH, as well as in advertising and music media, will appear. Together with psychiatrist Tamaki Saito, they will discuss the value and possibilities of "displaying and viewing art photos in everyday life."
Each session is limited to 80 people, and applications must be made on the day of each session. (※Applications may not be accepted if the event is fully booked.)
