A new commercial facility will open in Harajuku on October 3rd. It's called "CASCADE HARAJUKU" (1-10-37 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). While Harajuku is often thought of as a "town for youth culture," the newly opened "CASCADE Harajuku" is said to be a facility aimed at adults. We took a look inside this hot spot that's sure to be a hit this fall.
As mentioned above, "CASCADE Harajuku" targets adults in their late 20s to late 30s. Based on the concept of "From a town for young people to a Harajuku for adults," it proposes "Harajuku Terrace Style," where guests can enjoy a blissful moment on the terrace. Taking advantage of the land's varying elevations, the modern facade brings greenery and light into the terrace. The building itself has three floors above ground and one below, but the dining area will span three floors from the second floor above ground to the first below (the top floor will house offices). Seven bars and restaurants will be located here, including the popular Taiwanese tea cafe "Iro Sabo" and London-based "Rollers Cupcakes Tokyo," opening their first locations in Japan. When asked why the concept of "Cascade Harajuku" was chosen, a representative explained, "First of all, it's located in a residential area, one street back from the main street. With an entertainment agency next door and Takeshita Street nearby, one would normally think of it as something geared toward teenagers, but we wanted to create something unique and enhance its value. Therefore, we focused on targeting adults, aiming to provide a space where guests can enjoy a wonderful time on the terrace, surrounded by lush greenery and bathed in sunlight." Furthermore, the building itself has been meticulously designed. "We didn't add any noticeable touches to the building itself. By keeping the overall atmosphere subdued, we wanted to create a design that would allow the individuality of each tenant to stand out. We hope that people who are a little older than younger people will discover a facility like this in a place like this, and if they like it, they will come back again and again. I think it's fascinating to discover something when you feel like you've gotten lost, and we think we've created a mechanism that will definitely draw people in once they come," he said.
