A unique attempt to express traditional sports such as sumo, kendo, and judo in fashion will begin on September 16th at Stage #2 on the second floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku. The "sumo fashion" lineup will be created by MUVEIL, GREED, and somunium. The "kendo fashion" lineup will be created by TARO HORIUCHI and REKISAMI. The "judo fashion" lineup will be created by Muller of Yoshiokubo. The buyer who came up with the idea of expressing traditional sports through fashion said, "When I thought about the differences between European Western culture and traditional Japanese clothing, I focused on the traditional Japanese behavior of 'tatamu, oru, musbu' (folding, folding, and knotting). This behavior can also be seen in the uniforms and mawashi worn in traditional sports like sumo, kendo, and judo. I wanted to add a touch of humor to fashion, and that's how the idea for this project came to me." Greed's sumo-inspired look features a flesh-colored cut-and-sew top (20,000 yen) crafted from high-quality material, paired with suspender shorts (34,000 yen) reminiscent of a keshou mawashi (shoulder wrap). Muller of Yoshiokubo also designed a top and bottoms (32,000 yen each) inspired by judo uniforms, crafted from soft, fluffy, brushed material. Other items on offer at the event space include accessories featuring kokeshi sumo wrestlers by Cokets, Somnium mawashi (scarves), and sumo fan motifs, as well as sumo wrestler-themed iPhone cases and icing cookies. The event will run from September 16th to 22nd at Stage #2 on the second floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku and Le Place on the third floor of Ginza Mitsukoshi, and will then be held at Space #2 on the second floor of the main building of Mitsukoshi Nihombashi from September 23rd to 29th. Additionally, sumo wrestlers from the Minezaki stable, Arataka and Gochozan, will appear at Mitsukoshi Nihombashi from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on the 28th. Also, for the event, the event collaborated with Wednesday Campanella, a unit consisting of BOMI and KOM_I, to create an original video. The two appear in the video wearing the event apparel. Set to the song "MONOII" produced by OBKR, who also produced the sound for Wednesday Campanella's song "Napoleon," the story features a unique "match" with a sumo wrestler in a sumo stable, creating a story that mixes Japanese culture.
Mitsukoshi Isetan has adopted "this is Japan" as its corporate slogan since the beginning of the year, and the entire group is proposing "the good things about Japan that are known around the world" through its products, sales services, and more.
