The "Pixar 30th Anniversary Exhibition," an exhibition by animation studio Pixar, will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo from March 5 to May 29, 2016. 2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of Pixar, the studio behind numerous hit films such as "Toy Story" and "Finding Nemo." The exhibition will feature artwork from the global touring exhibition that began at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2005, plus new works commemorating the 30th anniversary. The exhibition will feature hand-drawn drawings, pastels, and sculptures created by Pixar artists and designers during the conception stage of story and film visuals. The lineup will include approximately 500 artworks that informed the production of films, from "Toy Story" to the latest film, "The Good Dinosaur." In addition, two installations created specifically for the global touring exhibition will also be featured. One of these, "Toy Story Zoetrope," places 3D figures of Toy Story characters such as Woody and Buzz on a circular disk. By rotating it at high speed in the dark and illuminating it with a strobe light, the characters appear to be moving. The other, "Artscape," uses digital technology to convert flat artwork into a 3D video and project it onto a large screen over 10 meters wide.
