What a Tart!, Japan's first savory tart specialty store, opened on the first floor of Classica Omotesando (5-51-1 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) on November 25th. Savory tarts are a general term for savory tarts made with vegetables, meat, seafood, cheese, beans, and other ingredients long popular in the West. The store uses no butter in its dough, instead using light sesame oil, grapeseed oil, and extra virgin olive oil, resulting in tarts that maintain their crispness over time. The additive-free tarts are rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein, and are low in calories, making them healthy for the body. The menu offers a total of 12 varieties, including nine regular tarts and three seasonal tarts that change every two months. Prices are 450 yen for "Garlic Broccoli," "Sicilian Caponata," "Spicy Bolognese," "Sautéed Onions," "Porcini & Colorful Mushrooms," and "Roasted Maple Beet & Pumpkin." Prices are 550 yen for "Pork Belly Confit & Rosemary Potatoes," "Roasted Tomatoes," "Crab Cakes," "Paella," "Roasted Apple & Blue Cheese," and "Chirimen Sansho Lotus Root." In addition to drinks and salads, set menus that combine tarts with coffee (700 yen, 800 yen) are also available. The bar opens from 6:30 pm, where you can enjoy a variety of alcoholic drinks including wine, and tarts are sold individually for 350 yen.
