Zenith, a pioneer and innovator of automatic chronographs, is hosting the "Master of Chronograph" exhibition at Watches & Wonders, showcasing the brand's milestones and journey. This exhibition also features the latest Chronomaster Open, whose three-color dial reveals the high-frequency beating heart of the watch.

The "Master of Chronograph" exhibition celebrates Zenith's illustrious history and numerous achievements, having contributed to the development of mechanical chronographs for over 50 years. It highlights Zenith's commitment to relentlessly innovating watchmaking's most complex and sought-after complications. Zenith introduced the groundbreaking El Primero caliber in 1969, the world's first high-frequency automatic chronograph movement. Since then, Zenith has continually pushed the boundaries, achieving ever-higher levels of precision and performance while maintaining its spirit of innovation. In addition to its exceptional automatic chronographs, Zenith also produces high-frequency calibers capable of measuring time to 1/10th and 1/100th of a second.

Zenith's legacy in the world of chronographs goes beyond performance and precision. Its cutting-edge movements are endowed with unique and evocative designs that highlight its ingenuity. In 2003, Zenith introduced the Chronomaster Open, offering a glimpse into the heart of its high-frequency El Primero caliber. This was the first chronograph in watchmaking history to feature a partially skeletonized dial, revealing the regulator and escapement. The Chronomaster Open's bold design quickly became a huge hit. Though many have imitated it, nothing quite compares. For 20 years, the partially skeletonized dial has been a hugely popular feature of the Chronomaster collection.

The latest Chronomaster Open model retains the instantly recognizable El Primero tri-color dial design of the iconic A386, introduced in 1969, while showcasing the transparency of the skeletonized dial. While previous models featured a cutout for the small seconds counter at 9 o'clock, the new model features a Hesalite crystal element around the tri-color counter, allowing for unobstructed visibility of the subdials and a view of the star-shaped silicon escape wheel. Additionally, while the previous model featured a "frame" and rounded, chamfered aperture, the aperture itself has been redesigned to reveal more rectilinear bridges and a contemporary gray-toned movement.

In line with the trend toward more understated watch silhouettes, the round case has been reduced in size from 42mm to 39.5mm, with slimmer lugs and more prominent chamfered and polished edges. The pump-style pushers feature rounded tips for improved ease of operation. The steel bracelet is designed to blend seamlessly with the polished and satin-finished edges of the case.

The skeletonized sapphire crystal caseback reveals the El Primero 3604 automatic chronograph movement, accurate to within 1/10th of a second. This caliber was introduced alongside the Chronomaster Sport as an improved version of the El Primero 3600. The skeletonized baseplate and bridges offer a clear view of the escapement, which operates at a high frequency of 5 Hz, and its silicon escape wheel and pallet fork, which require no lubrication. Equipped with a star-shaped open rotor, this automatic movement offers a 60-hour power reserve.

Mastering it in gold: Zenith introduces two new versions of the award-winning Chronomaster Sport, in gold and two-tone

In 2021, Zenith introduced the Chronomaster Sport and now the sporty automatic chronograph is now available in gold as standard. Winner of the "Chronograph" award at the 2021 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), the Chronomaster Sport has already become an icon of the modern chronograph.

Commenting on the Chronomaster Sport's ongoing success, Zenith CEO Julien Tornare said: "In just one year, the Chronomaster Sport has become one of the most popular modern chronograph watches. At the same time, it has become a key pillar of Zenith, combining our unique know-how in high-frequency chronographs with distinctive design. Today, we are pleased to expand the collection with new versions and materials that take the Chronomaster Sport to new dimensions."

To coincide with Watches & Wonders, Zenith unveiled its first Boutique Edition of the steel Chronomaster Sport, available exclusively in its boutiques and online shop worldwide. This version features an engraved ceramic bezel. It is composed of ceramic elements in the traditional El Primero tricolor of gray, anthracite, and blue, which are forged seamlessly into the ceramic bezel base. The bezel's color reflects the dial's subdials, clearly separating them for easy reading of the chronograph's 1/10th-second increments. This special edition is further distinguished by its silver sunburst dial with three-colored counters.

Full gold chronographs have held a special place in Zenith's history, even before the El Primero. High performance and exclusivity are not mutually exclusive, and Zenith has crafted the Chronomaster Sport entirely in rose gold, including the bracelet and engraved bezel with 1/10th-second display. Available with a choice of black or white dial featuring El Primero's signature tri-color counters with gold hands and applied indices, the rose gold Chronomaster Sport features meticulous brushed and polished surfaces to bring out the warm radiance of the gold.

The Chronomaster Sport is also now available in a "two-tone" design, combining the durability of stainless steel with the splendor of rose gold. The case and bracelet side links are crafted from stainless steel, while the bezel, crown, push-buttons, and bracelet center links are crafted from rose gold. The silver sunburst tri-color dial creates a shimmering light effect that enhances the combination of colors and textures.

The result of more than 50 years of dedication to El Primero, the world's first high-frequency automatic chronograph caliber, the Chronomaster Sports series is equipped with the El Primero 3600, the latest version of this venerable movement. This highly accurate movement, beating at 5 Hz (36,000 vph), precisely measures time to within 1/10 of a second, clearly displayed on the bezel and dial. The power reserve has also been improved, now offering 60 hours. The see-through sapphire crystal case back clearly reveals the new mechanics, including the blue column wheel and open rotor adorned with a Zenith star.
