
From December 26th to January 12th, 2016, Isetan Shinjuku will be showcasing New Year's decorations, ornaments, and other items perfect for celebrating the New Year at Center Park/The Stage #5 on the 5th floor of the main building. (New Year's decorations will be available until December 30th.) The shop, titled "ISETAN New Year: Celebrations and Gatherings to Welcome Spring," will offer a selection of interior decor and auspicious items to celebrate the New Year. In the "Celebration Zone," the flower and art production unit Cui Cui. will be showcasing New Year's decorations featuring pine cones, dried flowers, and nandina. Also on display will be the artistic yet modern decorations of Reiko Yuki, a master of both the Ogasawara and Sogetsu schools of flower arrangement. From Hiroshima Prefecture, woodcarver Norimasa Sasaki will be showcasing a celebratory sea bream and a figurine depicting the monkey, the zodiac sign for 2016. On January 3rd (from 3:30pm), the venue will also host a demonstration event by calligrapher Yano Kafu, who will be writing the symbol of the monkey.
The "Gathering Zone" will feature items that will stimulate communication between people, focusing on the theme of giving, dressing up, surrounding, and playing. There will be a wide selection of items created by creative individuals and by hand, such as striped Kokura-ori bags perfect for Japanese New Year's attire, and hand-painted washi envelopes by Itsuka.
Other items for sale include towels embroidered with "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil," "Daruma monkeys," and "pine, bamboo, and plum," as well as clasp purses with beckoning cats and monkeys, and red and white checkered tapestries.
