Artist and costume designer Mayuko Daimon's solo exhibition, "Mayuko Daimon MUSEUM," will be held at Gallery Speak For in Daikanyama, Tokyo, from June 10th to 22nd.
Mayuko Daimon designs and creates constructive and provocative clothing that maintains practicality while sometimes veering toward bold expressionism, reminiscent of paintings or objets d'art. Since the beginning of her career, she has continued to model herself wearing her clothing pieces, turning the resulting figures and motions into photographs. Her work has increasingly expanded beyond the genre of clothing, with collaborations with various actors and musicians.
The exhibition will feature a selection of ocean-themed works, inspired by the many experiences Daimon had during her first ocean dive two years ago. Approximately 30 large and small prints processed with photo acrylic will be on display. Human, goddess, mermaid? These works, created by imagining what might exist in the ocean, appeal to the viewer's imagination, digging up and floating about the world below the surface, a source of fantasy since ancient times.
In addition, many of Daimon Mayuko's designs, such as accessories, clothing, tote bags, and coin purses, will be exhibited and sold at the venue. A gallery talk by Daimon Mayuko will also be held from 6:30 to 7:00 PM on June 10th.
