
The 2016 French Film Festival will be held from June 24th to 27th at the Yurakucho Asahi Hall and TOHO Cinemas Nichigeki in Yurakucho, Tokyo.
The opening film at Yurakucho Asahi Hall on June 24th will be "The Awakening of the Sun," a moving story about a boy lost in life who has never known parental love and who meets a kind-hearted judge and finds a new path. The lineup for June 25th includes "The Final Lesson," a heartwarming and tender story about Madeline, who decides to commit suicide at the age of 92, and her family's end-of-life preparations; "Love in the Valley of Death," which begins with the reunion of a divorced couple; and "Mon Roy," a story of an intense love between a man and a woman spanning 10 years. The lineup for June 26th will include "Chocolat!", based on the moving true story of a black performer who received acclaim despite facing discrimination. In addition to "The Last Samurai," the festival will also screen "Anna and Antoine: Prelude to Love" and "The Day We Met." On June 27th, "The Miracle Classroom: To Those Who Will Be Heirs," based on a moving true story that took place at a Parisian high school, will be screened, along with "Evolution" and "Paris Is Ours." On June 24th, TOHO Cinemas Nichigeki will screen "Mimosa Bird," in which a son discovers another side to his mother while trying to uncover the truth behind her death. On June 25th, "Asphalt," depicting three encounters and miracles that unfold between six unique characters in a suburban housing complex, will be screened. On June 26th, "Palace Down," based on the tragic true story of a young girl during the Mumbai terrorist attacks, will be screened. During the festival, numerous special lectures and discussions will be held with distinguished guests, providing a rare opportunity to hear in-depth stories about the making of a film. To celebrate the release of the world's first original soundtrack featuring music from William Klein's films, a special screening and DJ party of the Parisian fashion classic "Who Are You, Polly Magoo?" will be held at the Institut Français du Japon on June 25th. Additionally, Lumine Yurakucho will be holding the "Lumine Yurakucho Cultural Department Presents French Film Festival Invitation Campaign" from May 24th to June 19th. Barbara Le mieux, the festival's official restaurant on the 8th floor of Lumine 1, will be offering a special limited-edition menu, a popular menu every year. WOWOW will also be showing 18 French films from June 13th to 24th, including "Intermezzo in Paris," starring Isabelle Huppert, who will be making her first visit to Japan in 10 years, and "Madame de Bouary and the Baker," which was a hot topic at last year's French Film Festival. BS10 Star Channel will also be airing both new and classic French films. Tickets are on sale now at Seven Tickets. Advance tickets are priced at 1,500 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for students, while same-day tickets are priced at 1,700 yen for adults and 1,200 yen for students. Advance tickets are on sale at Yurakucho Asahi Hall until the day before the screening, and at TOHO Cinemas Nichigeki until June 22nd. In addition, the festival's "Audience Award" has been reborn as the "Air France Audience Award," and one lucky voter for the Audience Award winner will be given a pair of round-trip tickets between Tokyo and Paris.
