
From July 15th to August 31st, Yebisu Garden Place will be hosting "Yebisu Garden Picnic," an event to help people spend the summer in the city comfortably.
Artificial turf will be laid out in the center plaza of Yebisu Garden Place, and a stage and screen will be set up. Various events will be held, including weekend film screenings, yoga, and violin performances. The main event, "Picnic Cinema," will be held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from August 5th to 21st. It will feature free screenings of nine films selected by Rui Arisaka, owner of Kino Igloo, a Tokyo-based mobile cinema that screens films in various spaces across the country, including cafes, general stores, bookstores, and art museums, based on the concept of "relaxing and laughing." The lineup of films includes "Chef," which depicts a former top restaurant chef's journey to sell the ultimate sandwich; "Mr. Bean: A Trouble at Cannes?!", a hilarious comedy starring "Troublesome Old Man" Mr. Bean; "Vicky Criss," a romantic comedy about a love quadrangle set in Barcelona, Spain; "Romance," a heartwarming comedy about a troubled family; "The Pirate Grandpa's Gift," a fantastic comedy about a rental video store employee who accidentally erases the contents of a videotape and is forced to film his own classic and old movies; and nine other films, including "The Carefree General: Derailed," "Nabi's Love," "Moonrise Kingdom," and "Corpse Bride."
In addition, with the cooperation of Konami Sports Club, the original yoga program "Bilanx Yoga" will be held a total of 13 times every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from August 1st to 26th. It will be held in the morning from 7:30 to 8:30 every Friday, and in the evening from 7:00 to 8:00 every Monday and Wednesday. Other planned events include a performance by the Monaco Boys Choir, who have toured 35 countries and will be performing in Japan for the first time in a long time; a violin performance and hands-on workshop called "We Love Music" by Duo Deux Fleurs, a sister violin duo consisting of Yukari Nakamura and Rina Nakamura, winners of the top prize in the chamber music category at the Tateshina Competition in Tokyo; a free distribution of 2,000 servings of Delaware grapes from Yamagata Prefecture, Japan's largest grape producer; a talk show called "Grape Harvest Ebisu" introducing delicious ways to eat and store grapes; and a dance performance centered around people with disabilities called "Yuuki no Tsubasa INCLUSION FES. 2016."
