■ "Photographer of style" Horst P. Holst
This is a collection of works by fashion photographer Horst P. Holst, published in conjunction with a large-scale photo exhibition held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London until January 4th this year. This book showcases Horst's diverse work, spanning the 1930s to 1960s, including fashion photographs from magazines like Vogue, portraits of famous people he associated with—including fashion designers like Coco Chanel, artists like Salvador Dalí, and film director Luchino Visconti—as well as nudes, botanical photographs, and a series of photographs of the homes and gardens of wealthy European and American families, all of which are part of his later career. Born in Germany, Horst studied architecture at a design school before moving to Paris in 1929 and beginning work at Le Corbusier's office. After various encounters, he began taking photographs for Vogue. Because the photographs were taken during the interwar period, the dresses worn by the models may appear slightly dated. However, Horst's meticulous interior sets, created by his deep knowledge of architecture and design, create works that remain beautiful and fresh throughout the years.
