Mary Quant becomes a Dame at age 80

The 2015 British New Year Honours list has been announced, with Mary Quant being awarded the title of Dame, the male equivalent of a knighthood.

Quant was born in 1934 and opened Bazaar on the King's Road in 1955, pioneering fashion for young people. She is known as the initiator of the miniskirt craze in the 1960s.

Other honours from the fashion world include Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council (BFC), and Jane Shepherdson, CEO of Whistles, who were awarded CBEs (Commander of the Order of the British Empire), and Vanita Partey, founder of eyebrow trimming specialists Blink Brow Bar, who was awarded MBEs (Commander of the Order of the British Empire).
