Comme des Garçons 2015 kicks off with JR transforming the city into a museum

Jan 8, 2015

COMME des GARÇONS has commissioned Paris-based artist JR for its 2015 direct mail (DM). Each year, Rei Kawakubo freely designs the DM, using the work of a selected artist. JR is an artist who transforms the street into a museum, working with people suffering from poverty and discrimination around the world and attaching their photographs to building walls. In Japan, he held a solo exhibition at the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art in 2013. The DM features JR's work in a blood-red graphic reminiscent of the COMME des GARÇONS SS15 collection. This year's first issue is larger than usual and includes a card with the text, "The Spring-Summer 2015 collections have arrived. Please come and see us!" Every year, the DM announces items and special installations related to the DM, and this year's edition is no exception.

To date, contemporary artist Ai Weiwei, photographer Rene Burri, and manga artist Otomo Katsuhiro have been featured in the company's direct mail.
