Jan 9, 2014

"Rene Burri Photographs," an exhibition of photographs by Swiss photographer Rene Burri, a member of the Magnum photography collective, will be held at the Leica Gallery Tokyo in Ginza from the 17th.

With the cooperation of Magnum Photos Tokyo, this exhibition will feature 14 of Rene's most iconic monochrome works. He was also known to be a fan of Leica cameras.

Rene Burri was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1933. He worked for a documentary film production company and discovered Leica cameras while serving in the military. He joined Magnum in 1955 and worked in Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. He also photographed the studios of Picasso, Giacometti, and Le Corbusier. In 2004 he published the black and white photo collection "René Burri Photographs," and last year the color photo collection "Impossible Reminiscences" and "Utopia," a book chronicling his interactions with artists. He is currently based in Paris. He was selected as COMME des GARÇONS' 2012 DM Artist.
