Aganovich 2/2 - The worldview conveyed through installations [INTERVIEW]

Feb 6, 2014

In this installation, featuring items from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection, a white-masked body is draped in the new pieces. Mannequin legs are stacked beneath the body, recreating the atmosphere of the first installation held in Paris in October 2009. Display shelves made from cardboard boxes used for shipping clothes, illustrations by anarchist British illustrator Clifford Harper, and an old bowling ball, which also serves as the brand's logo, convey the brand's worldview. The ball is pushed by wooden drawing dolls representing Nana and Brooke. One of the four bodies wears a simple dress decorated with lines and numbers, holding a doll named "Lemonescence" wearing a matching dress. The dress, named the "BLOCK DRESS," "was designed directly from the original clothing pattern, which is usually a trade secret for the brand," according to Brooke. This season, thanks to sponsorship by the Japanese Textile Association, the brand also uses textiles from Kyotango, including washed linen hakama-style skirts and kimono-style blouses. To create the collection, the duo spent seven days in Kyotango, visiting workshops and selecting materials. "We thought it would be interesting to use traditional, beautiful kimono fabrics in modern clothing, and we found pieces that fit the collection perfectly," says Nana. Other pieces in the lineup include a coat with folded pockets, a top with a pleated back, a kimono-inspired drop-neck blouse made from Swiss cotton shirts and British silk jacquard, and a corset-style dress, which Brooke describes as "the perfect balance of fit and looseness." DSMG has carried Aganovich's collection since its opening, and next season's men's collection will also be available in store. The duo, who are currently in the midst of creating the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter women's collection, witnessed the launch of the installation before returning to Paris. The women's collection show is coming up on February 25th on the official Paris Fashion Week schedule.
