During the preview week of the 55th Venice Biennale, Parisian brand AGANOVICH collaborated with Venice-based brand Setecento to present an eight-piece women's capsule collection, "Camera Obscura," at the Bauer Hotel.
Aganovich's interpretation of the unique chiascuro technique, a long-standing tradition in Venetian art, was presented. The subtly translucent fabric, crafted by artisans at the long-established Venetian fabric manufacturer Rubelli, was boldly piece-dyed and tailored into dresses and jackets with structured patterns. The installation, created in collaboration with London-based artist Fritz Stolberg, features several black boxes set up in a pitch-black room filled with the sounds of birdsong, and when you look inside through a small window in the wall of the box, the look appears. Additionally, as you walk along the wall of the corridor in this pitch-black room, an image of a dress suddenly appears upside down on the wall at the end, expressing the world of a camera obscura (an optical device; Latin for "dark room").
Aganovich is a brand created by Yugoslavian Nana Aganovich and British Brooke Taylor. They showed their debut collection in Paris in October 2009, and this year they were nominated for the First Collection Award at the ANDAM Fashion Award, which is organized by the French National Association for the Development of Fashion Arts and is given to discover new designers.
