Feb 19, 2014

Fashion designer Jean-Louis Scherrer was born on February 19, 1935, in Lyon, France. He passed away on June 20, 2013.
As a child, he aspired to be a ballet dancer, but an accident forced him to give up his dream. This led him to change his goal and become a costume designer for ballet and other stage performances. After studying at the Paris Haute Couture School, he gained experience working for Christian Dior and Yves Saint-Laurent.
In 1962, he launched his eponymous brand, Jean-Louis Scherrer. He attracted attention with his debut collection, presented inside a wine cellar. His elegant ballet-influenced designs were beloved by celebrities such as Sophia Loren and Mrs. Kennedy. Since 1979, he has also released perfumes.
In 1992, he sold his brand to the Seibu Group of Japan and retired from design at the age of 57. After his retirement, the brand was continued by various designers. He passed away in June last year at the age of 78 after a 10-month hospital stay.
