To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Fashion Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp, one of the world's three largest fashion schools, an event will be held at The Stage #3 on the 3rd floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. The event will run from March 5th to 11th.
In 2013, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp celebrated its 350th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the founding of its Fashion Department. A special exhibition titled "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR ACADEMIE" was held in Antwerp, Belgium, until January of this year. The Fashion Department also held a special exhibition at the Antwerp Mode Museum, looking back on 50 years of history and Antwerp fashion. In conjunction with this project, a special exhibition titled "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR ACADEMIE! 50 YEARS ANTWERP FASHION DEPARTMENT" will be held exclusively at Isetan Shinjuku in Japan. The event will feature miniature dolls wearing graduation pieces by top designers such as Maison Martin Margiela and ANTWEAR6, as well as graduates' works, and video and photographic displays of classroom scenes and design collages. Visitors can experience the academy's history and present, including the unique curriculum of the fashion department and the importance of graphics in fashion. On the evening of the 7th, a talk show will be held featuring Japanese designers who graduated from the academy, Naka Akira, Mikio Sakabe, and Nakazato Yuima, as well as Shito Rei, who actually attended the academy's events. Visitors will be able to hear directly from graduates about the academy's unique curriculum and their experiences. Belgian beer and finger foods will also be available to attendees.
