Diptyque releases limited edition mimosa fragrance

Aug 13, 2014

Diptyque will release a limited edition mimosa-scented fragrance, "Essences Insensees" (100ml/18,000 yen), on September 1st.

The inspiration comes from the centuries-old tradition of "Mille Fleurs" (meaning "thousand flowers"), in which perfumers distribute new fragrances made from the remaining flowers harvested each season. In collaboration with perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin, this fragrance was created at the Firmenich factory in Grasse, southern France.

This time, it uses mimosa, which bloomed particularly abundantly and was of excellent quality on the hills of Grasse in 2013. Violets with a touch of pink pepper, heliotrope, and Provence rose enhance the mimosa scent, which is softened by the scent of vanilla, yerba mate, and beeswax.

The bottle was also carefully crafted, and the ideal shape was discovered from the archives of Waltersperger, a century-old handmade glass manufacturer still standing in France, one of the few remaining. The design, engraved with flower and leaf motifs evocative of mimosa, exudes an antique feel, and the black pear-shaped pump adds a touch of elegance.

A limited edition solid perfume with the same scent (3.6g/7,000 yen) is also available. It comes in a brass jewel case engraved with the number "34," a reference to 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris, where Diptyque originated.
