New Yorker celebrates 50th anniversary with new flagship store opening in Ginza

Aug 21, 2014

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the brand's founding, NEWYORKER will hold the grand opening of its flagship store, the NEWYORKER Ginza Flagship Shop, in Tokyo's Ginza district on September 13th. Based on the concept of a "New York apartment hotel," the store features an impressive facade featuring the brand's signature house tartan. Both men's and women's items will be available on two floors. The first floor, designed to resemble a hotel lobby and bar, will display seasonal items and host exclusive events. The second floor, a tranquil space reminiscent of a guest room, will offer the brand's entire lineup, from the latest releases to limited-edition items for both men and women. To coincide with the opening of the Ginza store, NEWYORKER will be releasing 50th anniversary items. The men's "Miracle Crimp Premium Finish Blazer" (79,000 yen) is a deep navy blazer with a full wool interlining that makes the most of its drape. This suit is crafted with the finest Super 130's Miracle Crimp wool and is given the highest quality premium finish in our own factory. The lining is also crafted with our original crest jacquard material. The "Crazy Pattern Tweed Blazer" (¥89,000) is a modern take on a three-button blazer made in 1983. Paying homage to the patchwork blazers developed in the early 1980s, it features a patchwork of British wool gun club check, Abraham Moon Yorkshire tweed, and Harris Tweed black watch and pink check to create a blue gradation. The 50th anniversary "Miracle Crimp Cashmere Mix Glen Check Suit" (¥150,000) is crafted entirely in-house, from fabric to sewing, by blending Super 130's Miracle Crimp with cashmere, with meticulous attention to detail. The handmade pressing ensures the three-dimensional shape does not collapse even in high humidity.

Other items include a V-neck knit (18,000 yen) available in eight colors and made from 100% cashmere knitted at the company's own factory in Shanghai, which is being sold at a special price to commemorate the 50th anniversary. Other items include the "NEWYORKER x KELTY Daypack 3C" (12,000 yen), a collaboration with the classic daypack of backpack brand KELTY; the "NEWYORKER x MANTERO 1964 Heritage Necktie Collection" (15,000 yen each), the second collaboration with Mantero, Italy's oldest tie manufacturer; the "NEWYORKER x Psycho Bunny by ROBERT GODLEY" series, a collaboration with Psycho Bunny; and the "50th Anniversary College Ring" (35,000 yen) featuring onyx. Meanwhile, the women's "Miracle Crimp Premium Finish Blazer" (¥53,000) is a modern rendition of the popular "Ladies' Collegian" blazer released in the 2000s. It features Miracle Crimp and premium finishing, the highest quality finish available in the brand's own factory, with a burgundy striped lining. The "Knit Blazer" is a modern take on the hit from the 1980s. It features elaborate techniques, including molded knit darts and a two-piece sleeve design. It comes in two styles, single (¥33,000) and double (¥36,000), and two colors. Additionally, five items from the second collaboration with Psycho Bunny, the "NEWYORKER x Psycho Bunny by ROBERT GODLEY Series," are available. Like the men's version, the collection includes shirts and hoodies, each featuring a playful design based on traditional styles. The cashmere knit "V-neck pullover" (15,000 yen) and "zip-up hoodie" (28,000 yen), both of which are knitted at the company's own factory in Shanghai, are available at special prices, just like the men's items. Two types of bags in collaboration with "KELTY" and a "NEWYORKER × STEIFF teddy bear" (39,000 yen each), a collaboration bear with teddy bear brand "Steiff", will also be available.
