Dover Ginza Renewal. More domestic items, Nike Lab, Loewe, and crazy clowns.

Jul 14, 2014

DOVER STREET MARKET GINZA will reopen on July 19th with the start of the 2014-2015 AW season, after undergoing some interior changes. New brands based on the concept of "beautiful chaos" will be introduced, and installations will be rotated to each Dover Street Market. The store will be closed on the 17th and 18th for preparations.

Newly acquired brands include many with a casual feel, such as "C.E," "WRITTEN BY," "BIANCA CHANDON," and "PALACE SKATEBOARDS." DOSA, which previously held an event, will also be available on a permanent basis.

The previously available brands "noir kei ninomiya," "J.W.ANDERSON," "SIMONE ROCHA," and "Paul Harnden Shoemakers" will have expanded space. "MACKINTOSH" on the fourth floor will be renovated and designed by interior designer Masamichi Katayama, just like the Aoyama flagship store. Furthermore, new corners are planned, including three original curated spaces, a men's jewelry space, a sunglasses space, and "NIKELAB DSM GNZ."

At the event, the new "LOEWE" by Jonathan Anderson will be unveiled in the Elephant Space on the first floor. The sixth floor will feature a special installation called "Talking Heads" by the up-and-coming British artist Gary Card. The installation began when Gary received a request from Dover to display the latest season's sunglasses with a funny head. The request was for a "crazy clown head." The clown sculpture, made from polystyrene resin, is coated with JASMONITE material and then splashed with neon-colored paint, evoking the image of "the machine completely breaking down during the painting process." Gary, who performed all of the sculpting himself, commented, "The process is always fun. I'm passionate about creating sculptural objects, so this job was like a dream come true." Other plans include changing floors to house various brands.
