Isetan Shinjuku will be holding an event titled "Great Kyushu for Adults" in the main building's 6th floor event space, focusing on Kyushu cuisine. The event will run from August 6th to August 11th.
The store has analyzed that Kyushu is an attractive destination for travelers with time and money, as exemplified by the popular luxury sleeper train "Seven Stars in Kyushu" (JR Kyushu), and to meet this demand, the venue will be showcasing "Kyushu for Adults."
A highlight of the event is the "Kyushu Craft Beer Festival." The event will propose unprecedented "adult snacks" to pair with Kyushu craft beer, and will include an eat-in corner.
The venue will also feature Uozumi's conger eel sushi (1,000 yen), which will be paired with Yufuin Beer's (Oita) white beer, Yufu no Hojun (464 yen). Tsushima is said to be the number one conger eel producing region in Japan, and we are proposing conger eels caught off the west coast of Tsushima, known for their particularly rich fat content and soft bones, as a snack. Furthermore, to accompany the pale ale (464 yen) from the brewery Suginosha (Fukuoka), we will be serving Dashimaki Mentaiko Tamago (464 yen), an omelet made with eggs from Tsumandego Tamago and dashi from Aji no Heishiro, topped with mentaiko from Hakata Uchikawa. Also on offer are "adult ice creams." Tenmonkan Mujaki (Kagoshima) will be selling the "Adult Polar Bear Japanese and Western Set" (1,400 yen), a shaved ice with shochu and wine (in Kagoshima, ice cream and other confections are called "polar bears"). This set includes "Shochu Shirokuma," a shochu-based syrup topped with snack ingredients and a full cup of Moriizo sake, and "Wine Shirokuma," a mix of homemade milk and red wine. Other items on display include "adult sweets" perfect for discerning palate. ViTO (Fukuoka)'s Gelato Double (390 yen) uses fresh Jersey milk and is crafted using authentic Italian methods. French confectionery shop Trois Grues (Kumamoto) will be showcasing their fruity fresh Daifuku (300 yen), a mousse and jelly made with locally grown strawberries wrapped in gyuhi rice cake. At 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM on the first day of the event, Kumamon, the Kumamoto Prefecture promotional mascot, will be promoting the exhibition at a special venue on the rooftop of the store's main building.
