"Hobonichi" physical store opens in Minami-Aoyama

Aug 5, 2014

Hobonichi Itoi Shimbun, a website run by copywriter Shigesato Itoi, has opened its first brick-and-mortar store, TOBICHI (4-25-14 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo), in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo. TOBICHI, which functions as a store, gallery, and event venue, collaborates with the website to host a variety of events, including galleries and events. Event content is introduced on the website, and the store aims to disseminate content more widely by moving between the real world and the online world. The architectural design concept is "a place created by someone around 30 years old with no particular money or connections, who is passionate about doing something." The fixtures and furniture were handled by Rokkakuya, a sister store of Sankakuya, which specializes in natural materials. Customers will eventually be able to order products from the store on-site. As an opening event, "Masatake Fukumori's Playroom" will be held until the 10th. Fukumori is the seventh generation head of Doraku in Iga, and in addition to his pottery, his hobbies include flowers, painting, and calligraphy. At the venue, you can watch him indulge in his hobbies, and you can also purchase his works such as tableware, vases, and ceramic Buddha statues.

Events such as "One-Day Only Obou Coffee Shop (tentative name)" and "Hobonichi Techo 2015 (tentative name)" are also planned for late August.
