Pierre Hermé Paris will be selling "Ispahan" cakes in special packaging designed by Kenya Hara for a limited time. Hara Kenya is a graphic designer who not only handles art direction for MUJI but also recently worked on Docomo's "Raku-Raku Smartphone 3." He included a comment in Pierre Hermé's book "Ispahan," and the packaging pays homage to his work. Ispahan is one of Pierre Hermé Paris' signature cakes, known for its beautiful shape topped with rose petals. Hermé asked Hara to focus the packaging on the cake, creating a texture and shape that evokes the contents inside. Hara conveyed his desire for Ispahan to be a way to share a "world of taste, emotion, and joy" with loved ones. Hara created the prototype for the packaging using paper clay and sandpaper. The cakes feature three shapes: one resembling whipped cream, one resembling dough pressed with fingers, and a simple, puffy shape. The seamless, smooth, curved form is made from soft pulp, evoking a luxurious feel. The streamlined design allows for stacking, and a small, single-sided washi paper label is included to seal the cake.
Regarding the finished packaging, Hermé commented, "I think it's a beautiful, streamlined form, designed with only the essentials, in Hara's signature use of white." "Ispahan is a work that symbolizes my creations. I hope that gifting it in this special packaging will provide a wonderful experience of sharing joy with a loved one."
The collection, autographed and numbered by Hara, will be priced at 1,750 yen per set. It will be on sale at Pierre Hermé Paris Aoyama from August 30 to October 2. To commemorate the launch, the store will feature a display case supervised by Hara.
The collection will also be sold at Pierre Hermé Paris Matsuya Ginza for a limited time of one week from September 9th to 15th. This will be the first time that Ispahan will be sold at the Matsuya Ginza store.
