ISSEY MIYAKE is selling exclusive accessories created in collaboration with furniture manufacturer Tendo Mokko in-store. This season, under the theme "Rhythmatic Forest—The Heartbeat of the Forest," ISSEY MIYAKE uses unprecedented new fabrics to create curves and express the majestic beauty of forests. As fellow craftsmen, ISSEY MIYAKE shares Tendo Mokko's approach to craftsmanship, combining techniques that maximize the unique characteristics of wood with a focus on functionality and aesthetics. Their mutual approach to craftsmanship and theme led to this collaboration. The wood used for the accessories is cedar, a species unique to Japan. Because cedar is soft and easily damaged, it's often difficult to use it for everyday furniture. Tendo Mokko, always striving to create innovative furniture, has developed a new technology for processing thinned cedar and other wood into molded plywood. This year, they pioneered a new field of wooden furniture, combining strength, a previously considered drawback, with delicately curved designs. Tendo Mokko's new techniques, combined with Issey Miyake's ideas, have resulted in special items that capture the beauty of curves and the warmth of wood, as exemplified by bangles.

The products include a bangle (32,000 yen), a brooch, and a necklace (16,000 yen each). They will be on sale at The Stage 4 on the 4th floor of Isetan Shinjuku from August 27th to September 2nd, and at ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA, ELLTOB TEP ISSEY MIYAKE / GINZA, and ISSEY MIYAKE / KOBE from September 4th.

Tendo Mokko was founded in 1940 as a craftsman's association in Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture. The furniture manufacturer has a history of meeting the demands of the times with its technology, and is known as a pioneer of molded plywood*. *A technique in which several thin wooden boards (single sheets) are glued together, inserted into a mold (jig), and subjected to pressure and heat in a huge press, allowing the wood to be shaped as desired.
