Paul Smith held his Fall/Winter 2017-18 men's collection show in the hall of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. This show also included his Fall/Winter 2017-18 women's and men's collections, but due to his roots in tailoring, he decided to present both collections simultaneously.
This season, various elements that express the brand's origins and aesthetic are incorporated throughout, emphasizing the Paul Smith style. Suits featuring British checks such as the Prince of Wales and Blackwatch tartan are paired with denim shirts and shirts featuring feather motifs for a more casual look. Workwear pieces like patchwork parkas and shearling aviator jackets are coordinated with Scandinavian-inspired knitwear featuring animal motifs, shirts printed with bird feathers and paisley, and exclusive Liberty print shirts scattered with small flowers, creating a playful contrast.
A particular key motif was the print of feathers in various colours. Printed on silk and hand-embroidered on coats, they added a splash of colour to basic suits. As if to echo this, prints and embroidery of various birds also appeared. These concrete motifs added contrast to the authentic items, and the collection reaffirmed that it was this playfulness that is so characteristic of Paul Smith.
